FORGIVEN AND SENT INTO THE LIGHT

Series: Forgiven and Still Fighting—Day 7

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." — Matthew 5:14

Good morning, beloved friends! As forgiven people, our lives do not end with reassurance and peace, as precious as those gifts are. God's forgiveness also shapes how we live in the world around us. Christ does not rescue us from darkness only to leave us hidden. He forgives us, restores us, and then sends us to live openly as people who belong to Him.

Called to Shine Christ's Light

Jesus says plainly, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). He does not say this after listing qualifications or waiting for perfection. He speaks these words to disciples who are still learning, still stumbling, and still growing in faith. Later He adds, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).

This light does not come from our own moral strength or spiritual achievement. It comes from Christ Himself, whose light now shines through lives transformed by grace. Scripture tells us, "For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Living as Light in the World

This is where the gospel touches daily life. Living as forgiven people means we no longer hide our need for mercy or pretend we have everything together. Instead, the Holy Spirit works through us in ways that reflect Christ:

We speak truth with humility, knowing we too need correction. We forgive because Christ has forgiven us. We show patience because we know how patient God has been with us. We serve not to earn favor, but because grace has already been freely given. Even our struggles with sin become opportunities to point others to the Savior who rescues and restores.

Being sent into the light does not mean being put on display as examples of success. It means pointing away from ourselves and toward Christ. God uses our words, our actions, and our quiet faithfulness—even amid our ongoing struggles—to reflect His mercy to those around us. Our lives become testimonies not of how strong we are, but of how faithful God is.

Paul reminds us, "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us" (2 Corinthians 4:7). The very weakness we sometimes try to hide becomes the backdrop against which God's grace shines most clearly.

Prayer

Gracious Father, thank You for calling me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light through Jesus Christ. Thank You for forgiving me completely and for giving me a new identity as Your redeemed child. Help me to remember that You send me into the world not because I am perfect, but because Christ has made me righteous through His death and resurrection.

Through Your Holy Spirit, work in me so that my life reflects Your grace. When I feel hesitant or unworthy, remind me that the light I carry is Yours, not mine. Shape my words and actions so that others may see Your mercy at work and be drawn to the Savior. Give me courage to live openly, humbly, and faithfully—confessing both my sin and Your great forgiveness—so that Christ may be glorified through my life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Conclusion

Forgiven people do not live self-focused lives. We live outwardly, shaped by grace and sent by Christ to reflect His light. Today we walk forward knowing that the same Savior who forgives us also commissions us, using our lives—weakness and all—to display His mercy in a world that desperately needs to see it.

The darkness around us is real, but the Light within us is greater. We are not the light; Christ is. But by His grace, He shines through us.

Praise

Praise be to God for the light of His Son, which shines into our hearts and into the world. We give thanks that through Jesus Christ we are forgiven, renewed, and sent to live as reflections of His grace. May all glory be given to Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light.

To God alone be the glory.
