SATHAR | HIDING

The Hebrew word סָתַר (sathar) is "hiding." This word means to hide or conceal an individual's identity or personal struggles - flesh patterns.

Unmasking Selfish Patterns

“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.” - Proverbs 28:13

Our journey to the indwelling Life of Christ is mysterious, and we often encounter the temptation to hide behind selfish patterns. These patterns can take many forms—pride, greed, envy, apathy, or covertly lying about a deep-rooted flesh pattern. They are masks we wear, not only hiding our true selves from others but also from God. Thus, God cannot heal them.

The danger of these selfish patterns is twofold. First, they create a barrier between us, the Body of Christ, and God. When we allow selfishness to dictate our actions, we are essentially placing our desires above God’s will for our lives. This can lead to spiritual stagnation and a weakening of our relationship with Yeshua, as well as with those who possess Him.

Second, these patterns can harm our relationships with others. Selfishness can lead to conflict, misunderstanding, and ultimately, isolation. It’s a destructive path that leads us away from the love and community that God desires for us.

But there is hope. The Bible reminds us in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” By acknowledging our selfish patterns and confessing them to God and the Body of Christ, we invite His healing and transformation into our lives.

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, we confess that we often hide behind selfish patterns. We ask for Your forgiveness and Your help to change. Help us to remove these masks and to live authentically in Your love. Guide us in Your ways, that we may reflect Your love and grace to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Remember, it’s never too late to turn away from selfish patterns and turn towards the inward Life of Christ, while letting Him connect you to other believers. His love and mercy are always available to us, no matter how far we’ve strayed.

May this devotional encourage you to reflect on any selfish patterns you may be hiding behind and inspire you to seek God’s guidance in overcoming them. God bless you.
