In-Home Bible Study: Precious Promises (2 Peter 1:1-4)Objective: This study is designed to help families dive deeper into the themes discussed in the "Precious Promises" podcast episode. Through scripture reading, reflection, and discussion, families will explore Peter's transformation, the universality of faith, and God's precious promises.Opening Prayer (2-3 Minutes)Encourage one family member to open in prayer, asking God to guide the discussion and reveal His truth through the study.Step 1: Read the Core Scripture (5 Minutes)Take turns reading the following verses aloud as a family:● 2 Peter 1:1-4 (KJV):“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that haveobtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”● Luke 22:31-32 (KJV):“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”Step 2: Discuss Peter’s Transformation (5 Minutes)Use the following questions to guide a family discussion:1. What does it mean that Satan desired to "sift" Peter? How do you think this testing impacted Peter’s life and faith?2) In 2 Peter1:1, Peter calls himself both a servant and an apostle. Why do you think he identifies himself this way? What does this teach us about humility?3)Share a moment in your life when you felt tested or "sifted." How did it affect your relationship with God?Step 3: Reflect on Precious Promises (5 Minutes)Read the following additional scriptures aloud, then discuss:● Romans 10:9-13 (KJV):“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shaltbelieve in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”● John 14:16-18 (KJV):“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, thathe may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”Discussion Questions:1. What promises are highlighted in these verses? How do they show God’s love and care for us?2. How does the promise of salvation (Romans10:9-13) apply to everyone, regardless of their background?3. How does the promise of the Holy Spirit (John14:16-18) comfort and guide us in our daily lives?Step 4: Family Application (5 Minutes) Together, brainstorm practical ways to live in light of God’s promises this week:● Faith: How can we remind ourselves daily of God’s promise of salvation?● Community: Who can we encourage by sharing the promises of God withthem?● Prayer: Write down one promise from today’s study and pray it over your family or a specific situation.Example Application: "As a family, let’s memorize 2 Peter 1:4 this week to remind us of the great promises God has given us. We can recite it at dinner or bedtime each night."Closing Prayer (2 Minutes)Ask one family member to close in prayer, thanking God for His promises and asking for strength to live in light of them.Optional Extra: Reflection JournalEncourage each family member to write down:● One thing they learned from this study.● One way they will live differently this week because of what they learned.
