Sermon Notes

THE Gospel - A Study from Galatians - Week 4

Outline of the Book of Galatians

Chapters 1-2-THE Gospel Defended

Chapters 3-4 THE Gospel Explained

Chapters 5-6 THE Gospel Applied

  • Galatians 4:7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

  • Galatians 6:1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

"With the power of THE Gospel comes great responsibility"

- We have the responsibility to one another.

- We have the responsibility to carry burdens of others.

- We have the responsibility to persevere in doing good.

- We have the responsibility to keep the cross before us.

Core "One Another" Commands

  • Love one another (John 13:34, Romans 12:10, 1 Peter 4:8)
  • Serve one another (Galatians 5:13)
  • Forgive one another (Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:13)
  • Encourage and Build Up (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
  • Be Patient/Bear with one another (Ephesians 4:2, Colossians 3:13)
  • Live in Harmony/Be of Same Mind (Romans 12:16)
  • Submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21)
  • Show Hospitality (1 Peter 4:9)
  • Confess Sins/Pray (James 5:16)
  • Honor One Another (Romans 12:10)

  • Galatians 6:2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

  • Galatians 6:7-10 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

  • 2 Corinthians 11:23b-27 I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.

  • Galatians 6:14 As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross, my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died.

  • Galatians 2:20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
