Acts 26:1-3 (NASB95)

Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and proceeded to make his defense:

2 “In regard to all the things of which I am accused by the Jews, I consider myself fortunate, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense before you today;

3 Especially because you are an expert in all customs and questions among the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.

COWBOY WISDOM

Paul stood before King Agrippa and stretched out his hand to plead his own case. No lawyer standing in for him, no interpreter garbling his words between languages. He said in Acts 26:2, “I consider myself fortunate, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense before you today.” That’s a strange thing to call fortunate — standing trial for your life. But Paul knew something a lot of folks forget: there’s real joy in being able to speak your own testimony, plain and true, without somebody else translating it for you.

Out on the ranch, a man learns fast that the horse under him doesn’t lie.

You can talk all day about how gentle your horse is, but the animal tells the truth with every step. Same goes for a Christian’s walk. Peter wrote in 1 Peter 3:15, “sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you.” You don’t need a preacher standing between you and your own story. You lived it. You know what the Lord did for you, and nobody can garble that testimony but you.

There’s another kind of freedom here too — the freedom of a clean conscience. Paul wasn’t scrambling to remember his story or keep his facts straight, because he wasn’t making anything up. Proverbs 12:19 says, “Truthful lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only for a moment.” When you’ve got nothing to hide, you can stand in front of a king, a jury, or your own family, and just tell it plain.

1. When was the last time you had the chance to speak your own testimony instead of letting someone else tell it for you?
2. Paul called it fortunate to defend his faith, even under hard circumstances. What makes it hard for you to see opportunities to share your faith as a gift rather than a burden?
3. Is there a part of your story with the Lord you’ve been keeping quiet? What’s holding you back from telling it plain?

PRAYER FOCUS

Lord, give me the courage to speak my own testimony instead of staying silent and letting the world tell my story for me. Keep my heart honest and my conscience clear, so that whenever I’m asked about the hope I carry, I can answer plainly and without fear. Thank You for the fortune of knowing You. Amen.
