SOS#58: YOUR NEXT SEASON REQUIRES A DIFFERENT YOU

By Pastor Glenwood Horton II

Here is the hard truth: sometimes it is not the environment, it is you.

We can change jobs, churches, relationships, and seasons, believing a new location will produce a life. But changing your surroundings does not guarantee changing yourself. If you carry the same mindset, habits, wounds, and behaviors into every environment, you will eventually recreate the same problems you were trying to escape.

You changed the location, but never changed the pattern. You changed the people around you, but brought the same version into every room.

Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. God is interested in changing how you think.

Sometimes we find people who think like us, hurt like us, and operate like us, and call it connection. But sometimes it is not connection. Sometimes it is trauma bonding. We find people who validate our wounds instead of challenging us toward healing. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” God may place people around you who sharpen you, correct you, and push you toward purpose.

Just because someone does not think like you does not mean they are your enemy. Disagreement is not betrayal. Correction is not rejection. Accountability is not an attack. Sometimes God uses the person challenging you to keep you from destroying yourself.

But be careful, because pride and manipulation can work together. Pride says, “I am always right.” Manipulation says, “If you do not agree with me, I will make you feel guilty.” Pride refuses correction, while manipulation tries to control the people who offer it.

That is dangerous.

You do not need everyone to agree with you. You need people who love you enough to tell you the truth, pray with you, and point you back to God.

If everyone at your table thinks exactly like you, agrees with everything you say, and never challenges you, you may not have built a table of growth. You built a table of comfort.

And comfort will keep you familiar while the Holy Spirit is trying to make you free. Ephesians 4:23 reminds us to be made new in the attitude of our minds. God may change your environment because He is preparing to change you.

So ask yourself: Am I changing environments, or is God changing me?

Your next season will require more than a new place. It will require a renewed mind, surrender, accountability, and courage to confront what has been holding you back.

You cannot step into a new season while carrying an old version of yourself.

Sometimes the breakthrough you are praying for begins with the truth you have been avoiding.

Your next season requires a different you, and God is preparing you now for what is next and walking boldly into what God promised.
