The Hebrew word anavah is what we translate as "humility," however the literal definition is to occupy your God-given space in the world - to not overestimate yourself or your abilities, but to not underestimate His abilities within you.

This term carries a rich and profound meaning that goes beyond the common understanding of humility as simply being modest or meek. Anavah is about occupying your God ordained purpose while being on this Earth. It is a sweep release from the inside out depicting the humility, less than human, of Jesus Christ.

From a Biblical perspective, humility involves recognizing that each of us has a unique purpose and mission that only we can fulfill. This understanding helps us to see ourselves as part of God’s grand design, where every individual has a role to play.

The Bible teaches us that true humility is rooted in a sense of responsibility and accountability. It is about acknowledging our strengths and capabilities while remaining aware of our dependence on the indwelling Life of Yeshua. Proverbs 22:4 says, “The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life” (ESV). This verse reminds us that humility is not about self-deprecation but about living in a way that honors God and serves others with the power of Christ.

As we go about our daily lives, let’s rely on Yeshua to embody anavah by recognizing our worth and purpose in God’s plan, while also maintaining a heart of service and gratitude. May we always remember that true humility is about finding the balance between confidence in our God-given abilities and a deep reliance on Him.
