Scripture: John 8:42-59, Jesus Claims About Himself To the people of the Old Testament – Abraham, Joseph, Moses – God was the great “I AM.” When Jesus said, “before Abraham was born, I AM!” he was telling the people that he was God himself – he was with the Father from the beginning of time. Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus is our Lord and God. The Bread of Life Scripture: John 6:32-42, 60-69, The Bread of Life After Jesus fed the 5,000, he told the people “I AM the Bread of Life.” Just as we need to eat food for our physical health, we need Jesus for our spiritual health. Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus is our source of strength and power. The Light of the World Scripture: John 8:12-20, The Light of the World Light allows us to see and keeps us from stumbling in the dark. Many people in this world live in spiritual darkness because of sin. Jesus is the Light of the World who exposes sin and shows us the good and right way to live. The Gate for the Sheep Scripture: John 10:7-10, The Gate for the Sheep Throughout the Bible, God's people are described as His sheep. Jesus is the Gate. Only through a relationship with Jesus can we enter into the sheep pin and become one of God's people too. Objective: Kids will learn that through Jesus we can become God's people. The Good Shepherd Scripture: John 10:11-18, The Good Shepherd A shepherd feeds, cares for, and protects his sheep. Jesus is our Good Shepherd and we are his sheep. Jesus went so far as to lay down his life for his sheep. Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus laid down his life for us. The Resurrection and the Life Scripture: John 11:17-44, Jesus Raises Lazarus Jesus performed a miracle by raising Lazarus from the dead. He also gave us a great promise when he said: “I AM the resurrection and the life.” He was saying that everyone who believes in Jesus will have eternal life. Objective: Kids will learn that through Jesus we can have eternal life. The Way, The Truth, and The Life Scripture: John 14:1-7, The Way to the Father People get confused thinking there are many different ways to God. BUT Jesus said that the only way to the Father and to life with him in heaven is through Jesus. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and The Life. Lessons Overview: Teach kids that we can follow Jesus’ example and live as He did! In this 12-week series, kids will study Jesus' life from beginning to end to get a better understanding of who Jesus is and why we can trust him as our Savior. It includes a series of interactive lessons focusing on various aspects of Jesus' life, from his humble birth through his teachings, miracles, and selfless sacrifice. No one comes to the Father except through me.'” John 14:6 (NIrV) LESSONS: Jesus Was Born – Jesus came to earth as a baby born to parents who were so poor that he had to be born in a barn for animals. Because Jesus is God’s son, he deserved to be born in the nicest palace to the richest family. But by choosing to let his son be born in a barn, God showed us that it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done, God loves you and sent Jesus for you. Luke 2:1-20, The Birth of Jesus Jesus Studied God’s Word – Jesus set an example for kids by studying God’s Word. Even though he was the son of God, he still studied God’s word to learn what it says and obeyed what God taught him. Luke 2:41-52, The Boy Jesus in the Temple Jesus Was Obedient – John the Baptist told other people about the coming Savior. When Jesus came to him to be baptized, John knew that the Savior arrived. Kids will learn that Jesus set an example for us by being obedient to God when he was baptized. Jesus taught us that we show God we love Him when we obey Him. Matthew 3:1-17, The Baptism of Jesus Jesus Never Sinned – Every single one of us has sinned at some point when we were tempted. As the Son of God, Jesus is the only person in history who lived a perfect life without sin. Kids will learn that with Jesus' help, we can resist temptation too. Luke 4:1-13, The Temptation of Jesus. Jesus Called His Disciples – When Jesus began his ministry, he asked 12 men to be his disciples and to follow in his footsteps and learn from his teaching and his actions. Kids will learn that even today Jesus wants us to be his disciples and commit to following him by obeying what he has taught us in the Bible. Mark 1:16-20, Calling the First Disciples Jesus Preached – Jesus gave many sermons during his ministry, teaching people a different way to live and telling them that we could never do enough good things to go to heaven, but that God loves us and will forgive our sins if we will believe in Jesus as our Savior. Kids will identify something they would have to do differently to live like Jesus describes in this sermon. Matthew 5:1-16, The Sermon on the Mount Jesus Calmed a Storm – When a storm threatened to sink the small boat that Jesus and the disciples were sailing in, Jesus commanded the storm to stop. And it did! We can trust Jesus with any problem, because He is powerful. Kids will name something that they want to ask and trust God to help them with. Mark 4:35-41, Jesus Calms the Storm Jesus Healed – Because of his great love and compassion, Jesus healed many people that He encountered during his time on earth. One of them was a man who did not have the ability to walk. Kids will learn that Jesus loves us and cares about each of us. Luke 5:17-26, Jesus Heals a Paralytic Jesus Came To Bring Peace – When Jesus entered Jerusalem the week before he was crucified, he rode on a donkey. The donkey was a symbol of a king who came in peace. Jesus showed us that he came in peace to let the world know how much God loves us. Kids will name one way that knowing Jesus loves them gives them peace right now. Matthew 21:1-11, The Triumphal Entry Jesus Paid the Price for Sin – Jesus was arrested even though he had done nothing wrong. He was sentenced to die a very painful death on the cross. We have all sinned and don’t deserve to be in Heaven with God. Jesus was the only person who never sinned and deserved to go to heaven without dying, but he chose to die in this way to pay the price for our sin so we could go to heaven too. Kids will thank God for dying for their sin. Matthew 26:47-56, Luke 23:32-47, Jesus Arrest and Crucifixion Jesus Rose from the Dead! – Jesus died for our sins, but on the third day He was raised back to life in power! Kids will learn that because Jesus paid the price for our sin and has power over sin and death we can live forever with him in heaven. Kids will be given an opportunity to accept Jesus as their Savior. John 20:1-23, The Resurrection Jesus Will Return – Jesus told his followers that he would be coming back to earth, but that their job and our job until then was to to tell people how much God loves them, and to make new disciples of Jesus. Jesus wants us to share the good news of Jesus with other people so that when he returns to earth there will be many more people who believe that He is the Savior. Kids will name 1 person they are going to invite to church to hear about Jesus this week. Teach Kids Bible Lessons Based On Their Summer Vacation. Each lesson looks at a different place kids could spend their summer vacation and uses it to help teach a fun Bible lesson. Summer Vacation Lessons Overview: MEMORY VERSE: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23 (NIV) LESSONS: Road Trip - The most common phrase uttered on a road trip (after “I need the potty!”) is “Are we there yet?” How many good times are spoiled by grumbling and complaining? Instead of whining, we need to learn to trust God and enjoy the ride. Scripture: The Israelites in the wilderness grumbling for water and food. The Beach - Where does everyone race to in the summer? To the beach, where the sand is warm, the water is refreshing, and the sun is bright. Peter made a mad dash for the beach too - when he saw Jesus on the beach from his boat. There is nothing and no one more precious than Jesus, and we need to be just as eager to embrace him. Scripture: Jesus on the beach when the disciples were fishing after the resurrection. Play Outside - Are you an indoor kid, or an outdoor kid? More & more kids would rather play video games than get outside. Sadly, more and more Christians are the same way. We’d rather stay inside the church than get out and share Christ with others. Jesus gave us a command to go and preach the gospel. We can do that through service, through evangelism, and through mission trips. Scripture: The Story of Jonah Summer School - For most kids, the last place they want to be in the summer is school. But sometimes summer school offers a great chance to get ahead, catch up, and build on our future. Jesus had a great passion for learning as a child, as evidenced when his parents found him with the teachers in the temple. His example gives us a challenge to learn the word of God so we can prepare for our future.Scripture: Young Jesus in Temple. Museum - Museums are filled with reminders of the past. They teach us about who came before. They teach us about what the world was once like. They teach us about the mistakes and sins of the past as well. All of us have museums in our heads, reminders of our past mistakes. We can either let them fill us with remorse or help us to reject sin. Scripture: Paul’s transition from Saul to Paul. Summer Camp - One of the fun things about summer camp is meeting people with whom you have something in common. At basketball camp, you meet other basketball players. At Space Camp, you get to meet other space enthusiasts. Our church groups are made of a variety of people, but we have one thing that unites us: Jesus. Christian friends can encourage us in our faith, pick us up when we’re down, and stand with us when we need courage. Scripture: David and Jonathan. The Fair - Is there any place full of more strange, unusual, and odd people than the county/state fair? But, what we need to see is that every one of them is someone special to God! They are God’s children, and we need to open our hearts to sharing his love with all of them. Scripture: Story of calling Matthew and “Whatever you did for the least of these you did for me.” The Pool - There’s nothing more refreshing than a dip in the pool. When it’s hot outside, being in the water is the best feeling in the world. It’s no wonder the Bible so often uses water as a symbol for the Holy Spirit and God cleansing us from sin. God wants to wash all our sins away and make us like new. Scripture: The story of Naaman.
